Covid 19 Catch Up Funding

In July 2020, the government announced £1 billion of funding to support children and young people to catch up lost time after school closure.

£650 million of this funding was directed to schools to mitigate the effects of the unique disruption caused by Coronavirus. The grant will only be available for the 2020-2021 academic year. Each school will receive £80 per student. Cockburn John Charles Academy will receive roughly £88,000.

At Cockburn John Charles Academy, this funding has been used in a variety of different ways including:

  • Extending the school day for Year 11 students to support them to catch up.
  • Train staff in covid safe teaching practices including remote learning.
  • Provide small group tuition, including support with reading where required.
  • Strengthen our ability to support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Full details of how this funding will be spent can be found in our ‘COVID-19 Catch Up Funding Plan’ shown below.
