Cockburn John Charles Pupils Dive into Learning at The Deep

Pupils from Cockburn John Charles School enjoyed an unforgettable educational visit to The Deep, where learning came to life beneath the waves. 

The trip gave students the opportunity to explore one of the UK’s leading aquariums, coming face to face with sharks, rays, turtles and penguins while learning about marine ecosystems, conservation and environmental responsibility. The visit supported classroom learning and encouraged curiosity through hands-on, real-world experiences. 

Headteacher Mrs Roberts praised both the students and staff for making the day such a success. 

“This visit to The Deep was a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn beyond the classroom,” she said. “They were engaged, enthusiastic and asked thoughtful questions throughout the day. Experiences like this help to inspire a love of learning and deepen understanding in a way that textbooks alone cannot.” 

Students were equally enthusiastic about the trip. One pupil described the experience as inspiring, saying, “My favourite part was walking through the tunnel with sharks swimming above us. I learned so much about how we need to protect the oceans, and it made science feel really exciting.” 

Staff at Cockburn John Charles highlighted how well students represented the school, demonstrating excellent behaviour and a genuine interest in marine life. The trip forms part of the school’s wider commitment to enriching the curriculum and providing memorable learning opportunities for all pupils. 

The visit to The Deep will be remembered as a day of discovery, excitement and inspiration, leaving students with a greater appreciation for the natural world and their role in protecting it.
